The line between electrical design engineer and application engineer is getting blurrier and the best hiring managers I speak with already know this.
Traditionally, you hired an engineer to design. You hired an application engineer separately to support the software.
But increasingly I’m seeing candidates who’ve done both people who’ve sat in the design seat, built harness schematics and wiring layouts from scratch, and then moved into client-facing roles explaining and troubleshooting that exact software to other engineers.
That crossover is genuinely rare.
And it matters because when your application engineer has actually used the tool in a production environment, not just demoed it, your clients notice.
